CANADIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION CENTRE (CBC):
TORONTO, CANADA
This ten story, 1.7 million square foot consolidation of 25
facilities into one, includes several television and radio studios, as
well as offices. The three largest TV studios are located on the roof.
Noise criteria ranged from NC-45 to as low as NC-12!
Vibro-Acoustics® was selected by the design-build
contractors to select, supply and project manage all the noise and
vibration control products for the mechanical systems. In addition to
silencers, acoustical enclosures and vibration isolators, extensive high
transmission loss (HTL) ductwork was supplied to reduce duct break-in
noise to the studios.
A full size mock-up of a typical on-floor mechanical room, AH unit,
adjacent office space and distribution ductwork were constructed at
Vibro-Acoustics® facility. Through testing 25 assemblies the
low frequency (63 Hz) reduction was achieved in the limited space
available.
Vibro-Acoustics® also supplied architectural acoustical
products consisting of metal absorption panels, special spring hangers
and 130,000 square feet of floating floors, including extensive quality
control testing.
THE GREAT MOSQUE: MECCA, SAUDI ARABIA
 |
Noise control for one hundred 400 ton air
cooled chillers was a structural and cost challenge. The very
large silencer horizontal splitters spanned almost 20 feet.
Vibro-Acoustics® solved the cost problem by designing
open web steel joists into the splitters for manufacture in
Saudi Arabia.
The Egyptian consulting engineer witnessed silencer testing
in Vibro-Acoustics® laboratory, including the effect
of water absorption during a heavy downpour and proof that
painting would not degrade the performance. |
KIMMEL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS:
PHILADELPHIA, USA
Spanning a full city block, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts
was custom built for the world renowned Philadelphia Orchestra. The
concert hall alone seats 2500 and is designed to be acoustically and
architecturally adjustable to suit the size and style of performances.
A
world class orchestra requires world class acoustics. Vibro-Acoustics
supplied the HVAC noise control products to ensure the performance
spaces met the specified criteria. Placement of the mechanical rooms
directly under both the Concert Hall and the Recital Theater created a
noise control challenge. With the close proximity of the mechanical room
to these critical spaces, Vibro-Acoustics' Systems Approach to silencer
and acoustic plenum selection and lay-out was necessary to meet the
stringent specified N-1 criteria.
Vibro-Acoustics supplied a variety of duct silencers ranging from
rectangular, elbow, circular, transitional cone, to acoustic plenums.
The air handling unit silencers were selected by Vibro-Acoustics to meet
the specified criteria at both inlet and discharge. Special attention
was given to the air handling units that supplied the Concert Hall which
required both a rectangular and an elbow silencer in series. This
selection and application saved space and met specified sound power
levels.
Bravo!
HAWAII FILM STUDIO: HAWAII, USA
The production stage air conditioning for "Hawaii 5-0" and "Magnum
P.I." was not able to operate during filming due to excessive noise. The
production of a new TV series required state of the art facilities to
keep actors and crew cool while keeping the noise levels ultra quiet.
A
new sound stage, the first of a large new complex, measuring 16,500
square feet (110’ x 150’ with 29’ ceilings) required 27,000 cfm of
"quiet" air. Vibro-Acoustics® supplied technical
product/system expertise for the NC-20 design, which incorporated
oversized round ducts with "special silencing". Using the "Systems
Approach" Vibro-Acoustics® guaranteed and achieved the
required acoustic and aerodynamic performance.
